Sometimes having a group of new recipes to follow and keep track of can be overwhelming. Why not just throw something together? We all have busy lives and don't always feel like cooking. That's perfectly fine. There are just a couple of things you have to remember to stay on track.

  1. Eat fruit before everything else, or wait 20 minutes after. Fruit naturally goes right through your stomach, but when you just throw it on top of other foods, it will still try to do so and cause a bunch of problems. By following this tip you get the most out of your fruits nutrition, and less tummy aches.

  2. Make individual servings of salads in advance. If you make 2-3 single-serving size salads at the beginning of the week, then you have a side dish or lunch ready for when you need it. You don't always have to have the same kinds of salads, keep it interesting by adding nuts, grilled chicken, sprouts, and etc. Don't use much dressing on your salads. Even if the bottle says  "reduced fat," or "organic," it's not good to have much. Italian dressing is not even that great for you, so heavy ones like Ranch are big red flag salad toppings. Make your own dressing, like vinigar and olive oil. You know exactly whats in it, it's better for you, and most likely cheaper. There is also just eating it plain.

  3. NO JUNK FOOD. Fast food, sodas, candy, take-out, most chips, and more are bad all across the board. You might think you're saving money, but for a meal consisting of a burger, fries, and soda, you could have at least two homemade lunches. That doesn't mean you can't have dessert ever again, or that you can't go out to lunch with a buddy here and there. It mean your need to be smart about it. Only eat small amounts of dessert, and only occasionally. If going out with a friend is special, then make it special. Don't go to a fast food place, go to a restaurant and get a not-as-healthy-as-it-could-be side, or a more luxurious dessert as a treat. The only exception is soda. Cut it out. Completely. There are a ridiculous amount of problems that it causes, it's not worth it. In some stores you can find healthier snacks, such as salt-less pretzels, mixed nuts, vegetable chips, and so on.

  4. Watch out for certain ingredients. Hydrogenated oils - Partially or otherwise. When it gets into your body it will build up and cause blockage and clots in many different areas; it can lend a helping hand to heart attacks. Aspertame - A chemically-made sugar substitute. You know how when you get a diet thing and it has that bitter aftertaste sometimes? That can be credited to aspertame and her cousin, sucrose. Although there hasn't been an extravagant amount of studies done, many companies pick-and-choose their facts to have a positive outlook on the products, even when research shows ties to cancer.
There are many bad sugar substitutes out there. All the more reason to cut way down on sugar alltogether. Pay close attention to the placement of ingredients, the higher on the ingredients list, the more of it there is.

  5. Relax. There are areas in your new eating style that you really can't push the envelope. But you don't have to be totally strict about everything. Take the example on going out with a friend in part 3. If you do that once a week, you'd be ok. And remember that EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES. If you slip, just get back on the bandwagon. Needing some ice cream after a bad breakup isn't a crime, as long as you realise it doesn't need to be part of your regular diet. You don't need to count every calorie or obsess over how many grams of sugar water has, eating should be fun! You can find healthy, interesting, and delicious recipes anywhere. Books, websites, friends and family, even the newspaper sometimes. Take care of you, while still being YOU.
